Yates Screamers are shock absorbing slings designed to reduce peak loads in climbing systems. Helps to reduce shock loading. Screamers were designed to be used on less than ideal climbing protection like small nuts, old bolts, snow anchors, or marginal protection. Popular for ice climbing. These are actually longer slings that are sewn into an accordion-like shape. When the screamer is activated the stitches rip apart as the sling extends and absorbs energy from a fall. They increase the time interval of a fall, which also allows the climbing rope to absorb more energy. Screamers can also be linked in series to double or triple the total amount of energy absorption, or "ganged" in parallel to increase the activation force and absorption.
